Middle East Region officer receives military award for volunteer contributions

—Maj. Justin B. Baier of Asheville, N.C., chief of recruiting for the Middle East Region (MER) of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), has received the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal for his contributions to the organization.

—National Capitol Wing Chaplain Lt Col John Hoffmann, CAP, represented Civil Air Patrol on Sunday, November 11, at the annual National Veterans Day Ceremony held at Arlington National Cemetery.

WWII aircraft visit Carroll County during EAA Fly-In

—Members of the Carroll Composite Squadron assisted the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) with their annual fly-in during the weekend, along with conducting orientation flights for cadet members. World War II aircraft were on display during the weekend along with experimental aircrafts of every kind.

Howard squadron conducts weekend field training

—Members of the Howard Composite participated in a field training exercise in early November. The weekend event trained members for future emergency services missions.

Col. Henry "Ed" Phipps, CAP subchaser, passes on

—Col. Henry "Ed" Phipps of Cockeysville, died Nov. 9. He was 93. Phipps joined CAP on the first day the organization was formed on Dec. 1, 1941. He flew subchaser missions out of Coastal Patrol Base 2 in Rehoboth Beach, Del.

Three St. Mary's cadets earn Mitchell award

—St. Mary’s Composite Squadron Civil Air Patrol cadets Peter C. Webster, Andrew J. Svecz, and Ryan C. DeGruy were recognized for the completion of a major cadet program milestone during a recent weekly squadron meeting.
